  1. Thanks @Sayaka for organising this, and @Hawker for everything you do to keep the board running.

From my perspective, I'm probably here more than almost anyone else (and would be very lost without my daily Nfans fix!) and so I'm more than happy to make a regular contribution. Likewise if you ever need additional help with any admin-y stuff or the like, then feel free to get in touch and if it's within my power, I'm happy to pitch in.

  2. I have found some searches don't return any results lately, even though I know there are some. For instance, they don't seem to find older episodes anymore - I will sometimes search by episode number to pull up a particular reference (on the forum, not the archive site) but for the older ones, it doesn't seem to work now.

ETA: I did just try Neighbuzz though, and that worked. So maybe it's intermittent?

  3. Thanks very much for all your work on the upgrade, Sal - looks fab, and excited for my new crown! 👑 :D

I see the emojis display in an Android style now. @wizardt™ will be pleased. Bye-bye iPhone style emojis. 👋

I only really use the 'classic' smileys most of the time - :D:wibbly: etc - as they are by far my faves, so not sure I'd have noticed! But you're right that my instincts more broadly are iPhone-sceptical. ;)

@Starmaker73 Do keep posting! Love to hear everyone's opinions on the board, and we Grand Masters' orthodoxies need challenging sometimes ;) (Android changed it to 'orthodontics' three times without my input - does iPhone do this @Benji?)

  4. Thanks @Hawker - I think the silent editing is a great change. I'm a perfectionist and always go in to edit my posts to correct bits and bobs immediately after I've submitted them (even just to put spaces between emojis or whatever), but the trade-off was that the board would then tell all the world I'm not perfect after all with a timestamp at the bottom. :D

ETA: And now it definitely doesn't!

If you find that it's unusable, you could request that your mobile browser fetches the desktop site (which is usually a toggle in the menu of your browser) as an alternative.

I’ll definitely try changing my phone to desktop mode in the meantime.

It's a good thing to get used to doing, I think. I find I do this with pretty much every website I look at on my phone (even YouTube etc), so I'm not even sure what Nfans looks like by default on there. I think it's because I'm mainly a PC user for browsing the web, and I just like things to be the same when I'm on another device - I find zooming in and out to read/click on things the easiest way of adjusting, rather than navigating a new layout.

    Was that there before?

I can't swear by it - I have a feeling it wasn't there in the last board iteration, but it may have been there on previous ones. I'm vague about it because I've always used the tags, but it's not entirely new to me, I think. Or possibly it was there on Back to the Bay but not here?

  7. @Rick182 Not sure if this is right, but according to Google:

    Quote

Emojis show in black and white on the following platforms:

        Android 4.3 and below
        Windows 8 and below
Windows 8.1 and above, using Firefox or Chrome
        Windows Phone 8

All other platforms and browsers show emojis in full color, including:

        iOS - all apps
        OS X - all apps
        Android 4.4 and above

So I'd say that's not a board issue, it's because you're seeing the standard Unicode emoji set in the way they would usually look on your (pre-Windows 10) OS.

You can still access an awful lot of non-standard emojis via the 'smiley face' menu at the top of the post preview, as ever (I'm sure these aren't showing for you as black and white):

  8. Thanks @Hawker, all looks great to me!

One thing I almost asked about (but then found) is that the option to edit posts is now on the top right of the post as one of the options in the 'three dots' menu -- rather than down below as it used to be. Just thought I'd mention in case anyone is looking for it.

unfortunately it's getting increasingly hard to have discussions when we're watching at different rates.

It is, but at least we UK-ers can still respond to points made after the Aus airing, even though the original posters might've long forgotten those episodes by the time we get to them!

The existing discussion thread for the episode from the Australian broadcast will be moved from 2020 Episode Summaries into the new UK forum.  This will keep all discussion to one thread.

It will then be moved back a few days later.

Thanks Sal. I think that's the right approach, as it would be a shame to split the episode discussion altogether; discussion has been a lot more active on those parts of the boards since the UK and Australia have been airing in sync.

  11. Thanks for your all your efforts, Sal! Don't know it helps for us to post 'symptoms' but the thing I'm getting a lot of is bare-bones, Times New Roman loading:

Also quite a few link clicks that don't register, and not being able to type in reply boxes etc. It had been better today than it was yesterday but seems to have taken a bit of a dip again.

When I've had problems similar to this in the past with websites I've worked on after a server switch, I seem to recall the web server folk I called up on the phone to sort it out saying the PHP version was to blame. But that might not apply in the slightest here, as I'm very far from being an expert!
