I feel bad because I didn't tag one picture - I was too scared about the amount of time it would suddenly take away from me when I was trying to work, especially considering when I got back from holiday the thread already had about 30 pages! But well done to everyone involved and thanks loads - it's a brilliant feature

Ah right, that would be mine is practically the same as my actual count then. That's cool - another board I used t ouse your post count used to drop dramatically occasionally due to post culls.

Then it mustn't have been counting the posts correctly for some reason prior to the upgrade. ...maybe it was counting all of the posts in a topic as one or something, although it baffles me because that part of the code wasn't supposed to have been altered...so unless Invision haven't updated their documentation.
Unless something else was conflicting with it and stopping it from working properly and now that's ironed out it's counting how it should do now.

Ok, fair enough. I never disputed that the current number was correct, Sal, I was only pointing it out. I wasn't meaning to have a go at you and although a bit techincally incompetent, I'm not an idiot - I do understand that the board software is not making the posts up. Sorry if I've caused a fuss!

Yeah, that's the sort of thing I mean - as far as I can see there are no more posts than normal, but the number at th top of the page seems to suggest that there are.

Yeah, I know Trac, the bigger number was the only thing I was ever pointing out! But I fail, as ever, to express myself well so I think I've been a bit confusing

Sorry Sal, I know I'm sounding like an utter numpty and I really do understand the concept! But in practice, pre and post upgrade the feature has been different for me. The reason doesn't really matter, I was only saying.

Honestly, I do know what you mean, Sal, I'm just positive it was different before! Maybe it's got slower at wiping the post count or something
I know that the board isn't making numbers up -
The number tells you how many new posts there are, but it displays in topics - so if there have been 60 posts in Whatever, it doesn't display Whatever 60 times when you click the "new posts" link...it just lists the Whatever thread once - so there might only be 3 or 4 pages of topics displayed (so 75-100 topics), but there might be several hundred new posts held within them.
Does that make sense?
Sorry to be a pain and make you keep labouring the point, Sal - it does make perfect sense, I'm just saying I'm pretty sure that before the upgrade that was not the case for me. I don't know how it was working and it was probably just my computer, but there were never so many new posts unless I'd been away on holiday or something. If it said 100 new posts, that would be about 4 pages, but now it's saying 800 and the number of pages is the same, which seemed a bit odd. But the number it's showing now is correct anyway so it doesn't matter, it was just an observation

Yes, that's the reason I thought that it used to show topics rather than posts because I'm sure I never used to come onto the board and find 800 new posts in a day (I'm not saying there weren't that many, that just wasn't the number displayed) but it's probably just me! Anyway it's not a problem in the slightest.

It's always been posts - never topics. It's different in the formatting, yes, but it's the same function.
Sorry, Sal, just me being silly then! I just thought that before it took up more pages when it was this many new posts. But I am a very unobservant person!

Oops, sorry! But I'm sure it wasn't like this before - It used to say "View New Posts" and then in brackets the number of unviewed topics (I think) rather than "289 New Posts" if you see what I mean.

With the new posts thing, I think it might literally be displaying new posts rather than new topics, because it says 277 but there aren't that many topics I haven't seen!

Ditto / I thought we'd got hacked! I totally forgot about the upgrade and I haven't logged on for a few days!
Looking very nice. My only problem is maroon, grey and white were my school colours so I feel like I'm back to the good (bad) old days
