  1. If you're a UKer, you'll probably be aware that we're moving from GMT to BST shortly (wahoo!). Our Australian members don't change yet (I think it's next week for you guys, although I'm sure someone will be able to correct me if I'm wrong).

Regardless of your location, you can ensure that the board displays the correct time for you by making sure that you have auto-correction in place.

To put auto-correction on (or to see if it's active), go to:

    > My Controls

    > Board Settings (underneath Options on the left hand side)

    At the top it says:

Your base time zone The time (including your current adjustment) is:

    and underneath that, it says:

DST Correction - check the box here.

With this active, the board will make sure that your timezones are always correct and you never have to update it again! Marvellous!

  2. It's the 18th of March - and that means that we're celebrating our 3rd year of being Neighboursfans today.

The forums have been going for a lot longer than 3 years (as most of you know) and we're going to celebrate our 8th birthday in a few months (I can't believe I've spent almost 1/3 of my life administrating a Neighbours forum...I'm not quite sure how to feel about that!).

To do the traditional recap thing, we've had a few changes this year - the biggest of which has to be the launch of Neighbours Episodes, which saw our episode summaries archive receive a domain of its own. It now houses well over 3500 summaries and as always, I am incredibly indebted to Gaynor for all of her hard work maintaining it, and to all of the Contributors - past and present - who have taken part in building the archive.

As always, I am forever grateful for the Staff who invest an awful lot of their time in the site and spend a lot of time behind the scenes ensuring that everything runs as smoothly as possible. I (and my fellow Admin members) certainly couldn't run this place without them!

...and that only leaves me to thank you guys! Without everyone logging on each day to share their thoughts and theories, this place wouldn't exist - and certainly wouldn't be the success that it is. So er, give yourselves a pat on the back!

This year has been a pretty interesting year overall, with us doing away with the traditional look of Invision in August and changing to the new Pro Board look. The biggest change of late has been the re-addition of Quote of the Moment, which happened last week and already I can't imagine having the board without it. Most of the other changes on the board during this past year have been a lot smaller - such as opening up Current Affairs to everyone, changing the boards to being member-only and other cosmetic things.

In contrast to our relative calm, Neighbours itself has had a pretty turbulent year with its move from the BBC to Five in the UK and its recent changes behind the scenes...but I'm confident that we're all looking forward to what's next for the show!

As always, I'm interested to hear what you guys think about what we offer - if there's something you'd like to see changed, or something you think we should have a crack at, shout up and let me know. Have a think about what you'd change if you were in charge - new ideas are always welcomed!

Overall, the site has gone from strength to strength in the past 3 years. We've had just shy of 10,000 members join us since our move from Erins and I'm really looking forward to the next year and all that it brings.

(Oh and happy 23rd birthday to Neighbours!)

  3. I don't think it matters too much, to be honest.

I was going to keep the structure of the quotes slightly differently, so that the episode number had its own specific place, but I thought it'd mean that too many good ones would be omitted.

Although maybe it'd be a good idea to start a thread where people can mention which episodes quotes have come from if they find out so that we can add them in in the future. :???:

  4. We had a chat about this when we had it up a few years ago because yes, I am inclined to agree with you - but then we had a fair few that whilst they weren't plot significant, were really really funny and when the episodes were airing in the UK, people found themselves going, "Wait a second, I know this somehow..." and the episode didn't have quite the same impact.

  5. If you were on these forums before we changed to NeighboursFans in 2005, you might remember the Quote of the Moment system.

It wasn't available for Invision's new software, so for the past few years, the feature has been absent. However, it's now returned! For those of you who don't know, it's basically a function which puts short quotes underneath the banner and above the posts.

    Adding Quotes

You can add quotes by going to the Add a Quote page, which can also be accessed by the "iQuotes" text on the toolbar (next to the Calendar).

When you add a quote, please follow these simple rules:

    1. No quotation marks.

    2. No code or HTML tags (so no bolding or italic).

    3. Don't make up quotes - the board logs who submits quotes, so if you're caught doing it, your quotes won't be approved in future.

    4. If you're watching Australian episodes, feel free to submit quotes but they won't be approved until they've aired in the UK so that other viewers aren't spoilt.

    5. Please use capital letters for the speaker - e.g. KARL: Hello!

    6. Try and make the quotes short and snappy.

Don't fret if your quotes don't immediately appear - they have to be approved by the Staff, which may take a little bit of time.

You can see how it used to be look on the old sites (e.net and e.com) below:

Any questions, problems, comments etc - fire away below. :)

  6. Our summaries archive, NeighboursEpisodes.com now holds a whopping 3500 episode summaries in total.

This includes 8 full years (so if you're a fan of 1999-2007, you've got plenty to reminisce with!), which is an absolutely astonishing achievement.

We're almost 2/3 of the way through - there's under 1900 episodes left to do.

I want to say a huge thanks to all of the contributors, to everyone who's sent in summaries and screen caps and of course, to Gaynor, who does such a brilliant job updating and maintaining the summaries archive.

    Wahoo! Roll on 4000! :D

  7. This post refers to locked accounts. If you do not have a member account, you cannot read the board (you can read more information about what to do: by clicking this link).

You have a locked account if the board refuses you access when you have put your password in incorrectly several times.

If your account appears to be locked, you need to retrieve your password - you can do this by going to: http://www.neighboursfans.com/forum/index....Reg&CODE=10 and entering your e-mail address or account username. The board will automatically send you details of how to log in.

If you have changed your e-mail account or you're just stuck, contact me at: sal [at] neighboursfans.com - with your username and I'll sort it out for you. :)

  8. Our hosts are upgrading our server on Sunday, which will result in a small amount of downtime for us. I'm not entirely sure when on Sunday this will commence, but I would hazard a guess at Sunday afternoon (as our host is -5 hours GMT).

I will be backing up the board tomorrow night. Hopefully, the transfer will occur without a hitch but it can never hurt to have a spare copy. ;)

You should be able to just keep looking at the site to see when we return but I strongly suggest that you bookmark: http://community.livejournal.com/nf_com_updates/

I will post on the above Livejournal site if there is any news about the upgrade (e.g. if there are any issues, if I know when we're due back online etc).

Hopefully we'll only be off for a short while and we should be back fairly rapidly, ready to resume normal service on Sunday night. :)

  9. This won't affect most of the regular users of the site, but we've gone member only for a while.

If you do not have a member account or if you're not logged in, you can see the titles of threads in all of the Neighbours related forums, but you won't be able to read the content of the threads (Forum News is the only forum to continue operating as before).

It's easily solved - just log in, and you'll have all of your normal access rights.

If you don't have an account, signing up is free, quick and simple, and you can carry on reading as normal.

If you don't wish to sign up, you can still read the summaries at our archive - http://www.neighboursepisodes.com - but the board is where the summaries are posted first...so if you want to get your fix, the board is the place to be!

If you have any problems signing up, feel free to send me an e-mail at: sal [at] neighboursfans.com - let me know what's not working and your username (if applicable) and I'll get it sorted as soon as I can. :)

    Cheers!

  10. The new upgrade should've fixed the error, so the board will automatically update when a subscription goes through (like it used to).

I've upgraded the 3 accounts which were affected (Liz, Louise and toastytart) - if you don't want the badge, let me know and I'll switch you over to the no badge account.

Thanks heaps for supporting the site, guys and sorry this happened.

  11. I'm so sorry about this - it's a bug in Invision's latest security upgrade. The good news is that it keeps the subscription manager more secure...the bad news is that it doesn't send the payments through properly.

I've been pulling my hair out trying to sort this - I thought it was something else, and not Invision's end - so will have to pull the board offline at some point in the near future to resolve it (maybe tonight).

I'll put you through manually - I'm really sorry that this has happened.

Someone else has subscribed today, according to my Paypal account - if that's you, give me a shout and I'll edit you in manually too.
