The Imposter (Jackie Woodburne thriller)

Thought we could have a watchalong thread for Jackie Woodburne's new drama for when it comes on, as Channel 5 has announced it will air from Monday 15 to Thursday 18 December at 9pm. I imagine lots of us will be wanting to watch this to get our Jackie fix in the days following the Neighbours finale.

Other recognisable faces in the show will include Kym Marsh (Corrie's Michelle Connor) and Dannii Minogue (H&A's Emma Jackson) - plus Don Hany (Neighbours' Pierce Greyson II), Charlie Clausen (Zac MacGuire from H&A, Jay Duncan from Neighbours), Jackson Gallagher (H&A's Josh Barrett and Neighbours' Nathan Packard), and Jane Harber (Neighbours' Bianca Nugent).

Seeing the No 32 kitchen in another role was also wild. :D Guess that explains why Max, Taye and Colton have been shivering in the spa/locked out of the house for the last few weeks.

Enjoying it so far. Very jarring to see Jackie playing someone else at first but I'm settling into it now.

ETA: Leila Potts is in it! :D Hardly recognised Charlie Clausen and Jackson Gallagher, but Pierce II is very recognisable.

I didn't spot the kitchen either. I think it was very jarring to see Jackie playing someone different but I did sort of get into it. So many Neighbours cast - didn't realise it was Charlie Clausen, and strange to see Jane Harber (Bianca Nugent) as an adult. I guess I feel a bit ambivalent about it - I kind of liked it at times and also not so much at other times. It looked good and was well done, but I guess I'm a little bitter about watching this right now when I should be watching new Neighbours. So if I compare it to Neighbours it pales in comparison, because its lacking so much of what I like about Neighbours, but if I take it on its own merits for what it is, it was decent, enjoyable at times, and I'll probably try and watch a bit more. I think I'm interested to see where its going.

The kitchen has had a repaint and bits have switched around, but it's definitely the one. Fridge and microwave positioning are giveaways, though they at least replaced the tea towel. Lassiter's corridors getting a good workout too. It wouldn't be a Jason Herbison/Channel 5 drama if bits of the Neighbours sets weren't being liberally deployed. :D

Did Jackie wear a wig so the character isn’t just seen as Susan ?

I suspect as much, similarly I think this is why she is using her Irish accent too.

Why didn't they dye Jackie's hair or have some spray on colour as the wig isn't realistic?

I initially thought it could be part of an illness, but it doesn't appear to be.

Liking it so far, Dannii Minogues part seems to be smaller as she hasn't appeared yet.

Spoiler

She was in the trailer at the end tonight so must appearing tomorrow.

Oddly I always think of her earlier roles in 1915 and Sara Dane as much as I think of her as Susan. I saw her in those first, so they left an impression.

I know this seems superficial but the wig is putting me off watching it. It's giving me the impression it's going to be cheap/not very good. If the attention to detail isn't strong enough to give her a proper costume, what's the writing going to be like? Rightly or wrongly, that's perceived value for you.

It’s pretty bad, low budget stuff.

I’ve mentioned this in the finale episode thread, but watching the first part of this has made me realise it’s JH’s style of writing, storytelling and (lack of) characterisation that’s caused me to drift away from Neighbours over the last few years.

As expected, I didn't think it reached a high climax.

Over all, I did enjoy and all the loose ends were  conveniently pinned on The Imposter.

Dannii's part seemed rather small, although storyline wise she couldn't really appear earlier. I wonder if they couldn't afford her for a larger role 🤔
