  1. Good to 'see' you again, mate! :)

Yes, June of 04 was still Erins - we converted to Nfans in March of 05.

It seems very odd that we did about 4 years and 4 months under Erins and we've been going for 9 and a half years now as Nfans. I remember us tipping over the 'half and half' milestone, but now Erins is a long way in the past. :o Where has the time gone?!

  2. It was definitely their end.

What I do regret is not sending out a mass e-mail...I can't remember at the time why I didn't do it, but I should've. I think I sort of figured that people would find their way across eventually, but there wasn't Twitter and stuff like that back then, so although the hardcore bunch of posters found out and spread the word around, we still had people turning up 5 years later saying, "Oh my god, you're here!"

  3. Yeah, it wasn't the board software though - it was that the server collapsed under the strain of it, and the hosts didn't get it back up quickly. I think the fact that the site hadn't been renewed with them meant that they weren't that bothered, as we were leaving a week or so later.

  4. Good question!

I seem to think that I deliberately plumped for the anniversary of the show...so yes, it could've been the 16th or the 14th or whatever, and I selected the 18th on purpose.

It's all a bit in the dim and distant past now, but if I remember rightly, I was told that Erinsborough was closing its doors, and I was given the offer to continue the forum/site under a different name. I think I had a week or so to get the new site up and running - although I'm pretty certain that the writing had been on the wall for a while...and I made the decision to purchase the forum software (we'd been using a free version up until that point) and upgraded it...I had quite a bit of work to do on it, as I'd made LOTS of modifications to the original software when it was Erinsborough, and we wanted a lot of those features back.

The biggest nightmare was that the hosting provider of Erinsborough suffered a catastrophic outage the week prior to us switching over, which meant a lot of people didn't find us / make the crossover. It wasn't at all deliberate - it was just an unbelievable stroke of bad luck...and it meant that we just started afresh...we were going to transfer a bunch of the topics etc, but in the end, with the host out for so long, it was easier to just take across the members database and begin again.

  5. Hi guys,

    Sorry for the outage earlier.

It's been resolved now, but there are a couple of 'stray' posts that were posted at around 10.30am which have been lost. It's not a HUGE problem (I can only find two instances - and one of those is an RSS Bot post!) but I apologise all the same.

The data was lost when the board crashed (they must've been posted mid-crash).

Anyway, sorry for the downtime. All should be well again now. :)

  6. No worries, mate - can you try something for me?

Can you go to your profile, and hover over your avatar...does a Change button appear?

If so, can you press it and then press 'done'?

    :noes:

  7. I'm going to be uploading the next lot of avatars (no promise that I will get them all done today; just trying to get most of them up, and then I'll hopefully finish the last few off in about a fortnight).

Can you all see the avatar gallery?

    http://www.neighboursfans.com/forum/index.php/gallery/

If you click on the avatars folder, you should reach:

    http://www.neighboursfans.com/forum/index.php/gallery/category/2-avatars/

Then the avatars should be sorted into families.

Are you all able to select an avatar from there?

    Any troubles, let me know.

Any desperate requests for certain families...shout them out here. :)

  8. I'm working through them, but it's a really really slow process (not that I've touched them until tonight, to be fair).

I know it's a bit awkward trying to get them all to conform to one standard, and I do appreciate that everyone is trying, but nearly every single one is missing something that I put into my post.

The board uses a wysiwyg editor nowadays, so when you copy and paste from old sources, it retains all of the formatting - so even ones that are very close to being bang on have got stray size tags in (making the text much bigger in some places), or even just lots of trailling returns (which would make the quote huge on the board). Copy and pasting it into something like Notepad first would get rid of some of those issues.

I really appreciate everyone putting quotes in, because that's what makes the quotes system awesome - it's a bit pants when there are only a few quotes in it, but it is a hard slog to approve them when they're not quite right (which is why I've been avoiding it for so long).

  9. I think I got a bit confused today. I tried to quote a post and ended up adding it to the quotes page... somehow.:wallbang:

It's because the quote manager helpfully adds a 'quote this' button to the board, and if you're looking for the 'quote' button, they're quite similar.

The quote button you're after is on the right. :)

I will look at the quote instructions but I am a bit short on time at the moment, so no promises it will be soon.

  10. Would it be possible to link the quotes to the summaries, perhaps in the "View full quote" option? Sometimes you come across a quote that reminds you of a really great episode, and while you can just go to the archive and type in the number, it would be one less click.

And is it okay to copy quotes from summaries that others have written? Because most of the good ones are already written out there. It's not plagiarism or anything?

I think that would be a good idea, but I'm not sure on the best way to achieve it at the moment - leave it with me and I will see what I can do. I quite agree...it's where my thinking was coming from last night when I stated that the earlier episodes should have the 0 prefix...I was thinking about ensuring a uniformity with the episodes site.

And yes, feel free to copy away - we've created the summaries for use by our site, so we consider it all one and the same. :)

  11. We use Australian air dates throughout the site, so if it aired in Australia in 2012, it's a 2012 episode.

If you're unsure, check http://www.neighboursepisodes.com/ and look at the season list. For instance, 2012 covers episodes 6311 - 6550.

If it airs in the UK in 2013, but it was aired in Australia in 2012, it's a 2012 episode.

If it was filmed in 2011, but aired in Australia in 2012...it's a 2012 episode.

  12. No worries, Chris - thanks for your comments. :)

I've had a good look for you, and it seems that the software is setup to display guests - at most, I can remove them from active users (which I have done) but when you click further in to the online user list, they display again.

You can filter them out by using the drop down menu at the foot of online users - go to Sort by: and choose "Show Registered Only" in the centre drop down. I know it's not ideal, but it's a start. :)

As for the image, I would suggest it is potentially possible although I am hesitant as I think it would destroy our bandwidth. It's a nice idea though; maybe it can be implemented in some way in the future....leave it with me. :)
