  1. Ah, that's awesome to hear!  It's feeling lightning quick for me now, so I'm glad it's the same on your connection too.

I am reasonably confident I've got it stable now - it's been running sweetly for the past 15 minutes or so, whereas before it would crash after about 10 minutes.  :D

  2. Just now, wizardt™ said:

Don't want to jinx it, but it felt like some weight 'lifted' about two minutes ago and it is suddenly loading very quickly.

That's good to hear - I made some changes about two minutes ago!  :D

  3. It's a cracking guess @wizardt™ - it's not the PHP version that's changed, but it is PHP related.

I've made a few more changes - let me know how you're going over the course of the evening.  I'll be reading and making changes as I see the feedback coming in.  Although I said it was a server move, some major things have changed behind the scenes and I think it's a case of tweaking everything for the new set up.

    Appreciate your help everyone.  :)

  4. Ah, forget the archive for the moment - it needs quite a bit of work.

I've put the board back online as I want to see how it copes with people using it.  I might take it down again later if the same problems persist.

  5. Through necessity, we're making some changes to the back end of the Episodes site.

Whilst the majority of the work has already taken place (so you will see no difference in loading the individual episodes themselves), it may mean that a few areas of the site might be inaccessible for a period of time.  All features will be returning in due course.

Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst this is worked on.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

  6. You may have noticed that we've been running on HTTPS for a long time - really sorry that there was an errant piece of mixed content that was causing an error to show; I've updated this, and you should now see Secure in your browser.

Please make sure you use the https: prefix when visiting the site, instead of the generic http: prefix - and please update any bookmarks you may hold.

  7. You'll all be aware of GDPR by now, I am sure.

I've made some changes to privacy policy, guidelines, and terms and conditions of the site.  I'd appreciate it if you'd cast your eyes over them.

In short, hopefully you all know me quite well by now - we've been online for 17.5 years, and 13 of those have been under this domain.  I am extremely "old school" when it comes to the web; I believe in a site that's free of advertising, I don't believe in spam, I don't believe in sharing user data etc.

I believe in having a friendly, healthy, happy place to chat to each other - and if you get to a point where you decide you no longer want to be a participant on the site, and if you'd rather your message history was anonymised, then that's absolutely fine by me.  Drop me a line, or if I'm absent then drop someone on the Staff a line, and they'll get in touch with me, and we'll make those changes for you.

If you have any issues or queries about your user data, then do feel free to contact me - I'm sure we can resolve whatever concerns you have.  But, seriously, you all mean a lot to me...I have no intention of selling your data on or misusing it in any shape or form (I don't even send bulk e-mails; frankly, I haven't got the time) - but if you rather it wasn't here, just shout up, and we can erase you.

If you want a copy of what data we hold of yours (such as username, email address, known IP addresses, known devices, opt in details), then that can also be arranged.

  8. Hi,

Just a note to say that I upgraded the forums this evening.  A few bits and pieces to be done, but hopefully you like the new features and updates.

Any questions, drop me a line in this thread and I'll try and address any queries.

  9. I am running a quick reindex on all of the posts though, just rebuilding all of the search set up - so if the speed feels more sluggish than usual, that's all it is.

It'll be done in a couple of hours, but I didn't want to yank us offline, so it's just running in the background.

  10. Just a quick update - we'll be offline for a couple of hours in the early hours of tomorrow morning (Monday 7th September) for some server maintenance. It'll be around 5am BST until about 7am BST. So don't be stunned if we appear offline during those hours; I do know, and we will be back. :)

The Episodes site has also had a server switch, so if you notice anything awry with it, please let me know and I'll look into it.

    Cheers.

  11. TPTB definitely know they're there, and I know they've used them on occasion in the past. The Australian Screenwriters Guild is definitely aware of the archive and I sent them quite a lot of background information to help them piece together who wrote what for the show - and I know some of the writers link to us. There's someone, whose name slips my mind, has a direct link to his author page from his website. :)
