eviltwin Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 This looks excellent now. Thanks! 1 Quote
Management Hawker Posted October 3, 2020 Author Management Report Posted October 3, 2020 That's brilliant to hear; glad you like it. Quote
boatmate Posted October 4, 2020 Report Posted October 4, 2020 Not sure if this is my fault? Since the update I can read a thread (example: I’m on post 10 or 10) then later I go back to the thread and find I’m at a different place in the thread (say post 4 of 10). Quote

Management Hawker Posted October 4, 2020 Author Management Report Posted October 4, 2020 That's awesome to hear, thanks @J Bar @boatmate - that sounds a bit odd. Can you check your settings under this link, please? https://www.neighboursfans.com/forum/settings/links/ I have mine set to 'take me to comments I haven't read' - can you check that yours are set to something suitable? If there's no joy, it might be worth clearing the cache and cookie for the site in your browser to see if that puts things back into line. Quote
boatmate Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 @Hawker I had the same setting. Changed it to something else and then put it back, seems to have worked! I was wondering, Is there a way to mute a member on here? 1 Quote
Starmaker73 Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 The ‘mark forum as read’ function doesn’t seem to be working now on my phone (laptop is fine). It was working immediately after the upgrade but not in the last few days. Wonder if it’s my phone that’s the issue. Hmmm! Quote
Management Hawker Posted October 5, 2020 Author Management Report Posted October 5, 2020 @Starmaker73 - can you do the same, and clear the cache and cookies for the site on your phone browser? That should put it back into line. @boatmate - great, glad that worked for you! No, there's not currently the option to mute a member. 1 Quote
J Bar Posted October 8, 2020 Report Posted October 8, 2020 There's another small issue that I've been struggling with, Sal @Hawker. The Edit option was at the bottom of the post next to Quote. It has now moved to a drop down menu in More Options top right (...). I keep hitting the Quote button and making the changes, then saving it. So I end up with a second post and then I can't delete it. I've noticed a few other people are doing the same thing and we're seeing double posts until a moderator deletes it. I'm sure we'll eventually get used to it but to save on errors, any chance we can have the Edit feature restored to the bottom of a post? Quote
Management Hawker Posted October 9, 2020 Author Management Report Posted October 9, 2020 @J Bar Hey Jim, I've been having a puzzle over this - it's definitely an unfortunate side effect of the move of the feature. I understand the logic of why it's been moved, and due to how the post controls are linked into it (it's also where the moderator privileges sit), it's impossible to extricate. ...but would it help if I gave members permissions to hide your own content? Then at least you could 'get rid' of the mistake so the rest of the board can't see it, and the Staff can sweep the posts away when they log on? Quote
J Bar Posted November 3, 2020 Report Posted November 3, 2020 @Hawker Hi Sal. Sorry I didn't see your response here earlier. I'm a member of another similar site Media Spy. They have the Edit option at the bottom, next to the Quote button, which is why it causes so much confusion for me. I'm starting to get used it on this site now, so while I'm still accidentally clicking on the Quote button when I mean to Edit, at least I'm not accidentally posting them any more. One thing Media Spy does well is that it has a rubbish bin icon so you can delete a post without anyone seeing it. You also have grace period of a few minutes to restore that post, if you accidentally delete something. The other good feature is that you can Edit your own post without it being revealed immediately at the bottom of your post. You have about three minutes after it has been posted to make any quick changes, so spelling corrections can be made and it isn't shown as an edited post. Quote
Management Hawker Posted November 6, 2020 Author Management Report Posted November 6, 2020 Hey Jim @J Bar - thanks for the suggestions. I've implemented a few of these things - notably, I've added silent editing to your accounts and also the ability to hide your own content. See how you go, and we'll look back in a few weeks and see if it's working or whether I need to do some adjusting with the member groups. I'd be interested to know how people find the changes. 1 Quote
wizardt™ Posted November 6, 2020 Report Posted November 6, 2020 Thanks @Hawker - I think the silent editing is a great change. I'm a perfectionist and always go in to edit my posts to correct bits and bobs immediately after I've submitted them (even just to put spaces between emojis or whatever), but the trade-off was that the board would then tell all the world I'm not perfect after all with a timestamp at the bottom. ETA: And now it definitely doesn't! 3 1 Quote
daydreambeliever Posted November 7, 2020 Report Posted November 7, 2020 I love the idea of a quick edit - so useful for those times when I leave out a word while typing, which happens more often than I really want to admit. 1 Quote

wizardt™ Posted November 7, 2020 Report Posted November 7, 2020 I know you can see them @Bagpuss, but I don't mind you knowing about my occasionally atrocious spelling and grammar, as I know you won't tell anyone. 3 Quote
Management Bagpuss Posted November 7, 2020 Management Report Posted November 7, 2020 I won't - I also edit for commas and erroneous spaces, so your secret editing is definitely safe with me! 1 Quote
Skylover Posted November 7, 2020 Report Posted November 7, 2020 I love the silent editing feature. I edit most of my posts because there's usually something I want to add or correct as soon as I've posted. 3 Quote

It works brilliantly. It's a great feature. Thanks heaps. Cheers, Jim. 1 Quote
