Tractor Girl Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 Can I add my voice to those who would like to see the quotes back. They were jsut brilliant!
jayres Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 The board is fantastic as it is, but having the quotes back would be great. Thanks Sal.
Andrew Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 I would love to see the quotes back, they were a great feature. I'd also like to see the arcade back, I never made enough posts to join in! The board is brilliant as it is, so I would be just as happy if things stayed as they are. Thanks to all the staff and management for their hard work this year!
Daniel Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 I loved the arcade too; when I made enough posts to get into it, that is! It was a fun feature to have. I liked the quotes, but if they came back, I think they should be more strictly moderated because some of them seemed to go on a bit rather than being short and snappy.
SeK612 Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Shoutboxes can also effect things like sever load and performance (probably not a good thing if you are making use of a finite web hosting resource). Also remember that any customisation of the board software makes it hard when it comes to upgrading (though Invision have made steps in recent versions to make this easier). As I understand there are several people with the knowledge to help out with the upgrade so you shouldn't have too many problems. Be a little careful though as the changes in v2.2.0 are fairly big.
silver_falcon Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 There are bugs in V2.2.0 - already version 2.2.1 has been released.
Management Hawker Posted December 26, 2006 Author Management Report Posted December 26, 2006 I would never install a Shoutbox because I find them pointless for our sort of board - as has been said, we've got the Whatever! thread for short discussions, and the Shoutbox is one of the most exploitable hacks out there. I do know how to upgrade the Invision board, having done nearly every upgrade since we installed it in 2002 (and many of the Ikonboard upgrades before we installed Invision!) - our compatibility issues don't particularly stem from the board software alone...it's a bit more complicated than that.
James Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Would be nice to see the random quotes and arcade. Guess a lack of space would make a few web pages as the home page difficult for now, but would be nice to see in the future. I am grateful about the huge amount of work that you and several other members put into the board to keep it up and running, are you still looking for a new host after the hacking problems that occurred earlier this year?
Swanny Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I like the idea of the Summaries link going on the forum page (mentioned earlier) seeing as you have to type in a whole new address just to get to it. I don't use it much but when I wanted to at one point it was annoying!
Leah Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I would really like to have my pips back instead of the donator badge
meeker Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I cannot think of any changes I'd make at present - I recall the shoutbox we used to have and chat facility and both died a death pretty much unmourned so I'd not vote for them. The arcade was always good fun even if I did stink at the games!
Louise. Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I would really like to have my pips back instead of the donator badge I'd quite like to see my pips back too. Also would like the random quotes back. I used to sit there refreshing the page sometimes.
Tracy C Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 I've done that too if I wanted to see again particular quote.
paul18 Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 (edited) I think the board is really good at the moment, the only thing I would like to see again is the random quotes. Edited December 30, 2006 by paul18
Harold Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I can't remember a shout box, but I remember random quotes, I liked that. I can remember not being able to use the arcade, but it's a good idea. I think the whatever threads in the general chat are as good as a shout box.
Management Hawker Posted December 29, 2006 Author Management Report Posted December 29, 2006 We didn't have a shoutbox on here - that's why you don't remember it. I think people are either mixing up what a shoutbox is or mistaking us with another site (we have had lots of different looking boards over the years, so it's understandable!)
EmRed Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 I'm sure there was a Shoutbox/Chatbox on the board at some point. But I only remember it being around for about a month max.
Tracy C Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Are you thinking of the chat facility that there was for a bit?
Management Hawker Posted December 29, 2006 Author Management Report Posted December 29, 2006 We've had chatrooms which have been linked from the board but we've never had a shoutbox. I promise you. (I hate them!)
EmRed Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Are you thinking of the chat facility that there was for a bit? Probably, didn't realise that a shoutbox was something different.
